“The horizon leans forward, offering you space to place new steps of change.”  -Maya Angelou

The horizon as seen over the sea is a sacred symbol for me of solace, freedom and adventure. It has always called to me, and never more than now. Documenting the preparation for and the adventure of sailing solo across the pacific to my childhood home of Hawaii, is why this blog got started, and now it continues as a wonderful vessel in which to share and process all that I am learning on the sea and in life (isn't it all the same?). It will also document my racing and personal adventures aboard my lovely vessel Cassiopeia.

This blog is lovingly dedicated to my Haunani (a 1988 Catalina 34) who valiantly carried me across the Pacific on my first ocean crossing, and delivered me safely to Kauai on July 19, 2016. We raced together in the The 2016 singlehanded transpac from San Francisco, CA to Hanalei, HI with the goal of making it there safely and not finishing last. We thankfully achieved both, making our crossing in 17 days. Sadly Haunani was totaled in an accident at the hands of a shipping company on the way back to California, but she lives on in my heart and on this blog. I created a documentary about our 2016 SHTP adventure! You can watch it HERE!
