Back at the Helm: Returning to Sailing (and to SoCal!)
After a long hiatus from regular sailing and racing due to a string of illnesses, injuries, and a much-needed 2 year sabbatical in the Bay Area, I’m finally making my way back—and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This April, Cassiopeia and I will return to Southern California, ready to continue our adventures on the water.
It’s been a journey—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Stepping away from sailing was never something I wanted, but my body had other plans. The pause, while painful, taught me a lot about myself. And now, I’m coming back with more perspective, more strength, and a deeper appreciation for the sea, for my boat, and for the people who make this sailing life so rich.
One of those people is my ride-or-die sailing sister, wing woman, and dear friend of over 20 years—Carrie Linskey Peters.
Carrie and I have shared countless adventures, races, and unforgettable days on the water. Together, we’ve double-handed PSSA and DRYC races and co-led our all-woman crew in the CYC Sunset Series—a blend of learning, laughter, and accomplishments I’ll always cherish. Her intuition and ease aboard a sailboat are next level. She might not always be able to clearly explain her tactical decisions mid-race—but trust me, she’s usually right on. She’s a not-so-secret weapon and a huge part of Cassiopeia’s success. We call her fire eyes for a reason!
I’m beyond excited to reunite with Carrie this summer aboard Cassiopeia as we jump back into racing—starting with double handing the DRYC Cat Harbor Layover Race as well as in the revival of DRYC’s iconic “Ladies Got Guts” race from Marina del Rey to Catalina, a nod to the bold women who started it and raced it in the 1970s.
Carrie has taught me so much about being a better driver, a racer (I used to HATE racing), and a more grounded human. “No higher, no lower” is her steady counsel—on the water and in life. I love her deeply and am endlessly grateful for our bond—rooted in sailing, personal growth, ridiculous laughter, cockpit dance parties and all the messy, beautiful lessons life has to offer.
Stay tuned—Cassiopeia is coming home, and this next chapter is just getting started!!!!
